Nicolas Hulot, French Minister of State for Ecology and Solidarity Transition, presented the new climate protection plan for France on Thursday, 6 July 2017, during a press conference at the Ministry. Saying that France wants to ban the sale of diesel and petrol vehicles from 2040. 

France is joining other countries like Norway, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands with the aim of not selling any further diesel or petrol vehicles from a certain date.
