The UK re-confirmed its commitment for new cars and vans to be zero emission by 2040, and for nearly every car and van to be zero emission by 2050 in its July 2017 Air Quality Action Plan.

The UK joins other countries around Europe, including France (2040), Malta (2050), the Netherlands (2025), Norway (2025 light duty and city buses, 2030 all vans, and set percentages of other vehicle types).

Sweden aims to be the first emissions-free country.
