Bologna's Limited Traffic Zone (Ztl) will also become a low emission zone from 1 January 2020. 

It means that the criteria with which access permits will be issued to the city center will be environmental: it will no longer be based only on functional requirements, such as residence, but also on the environmental compatibility of motor vehicles.

Bologna will gradually tighten the Euro standard of its new environmental zone

The minimum standards will be from 1 January

2020: Euro 1 (diesel, petrol, LPG and methane)
2021: Euro 2 (diesel, petrol, LPG and methane)
2022: Euro 3 (diesel, petrol)
2023: Euro 4 (diesel)
2024: Euro 5 (diesel)
2025: Euro 6 (diesel)
