The city of Stockholm's ambition is to improve the air quality for the city's residents and visitors.

In Stockholm's city budget for 2024, the traffic committee has been tasked with introducing environmental zone class 3 in the area within Kungsgatan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Hamngatan and Sveavägen starting on 31 December 2024. An expansion of the zone is to be investigated during 2024 and decided upon in the spring of 2025.
