Introduction
Antwerp has implemented a Low Emission Zone in 1st February 2017.

Dates and details

2017:
petrol: Euro 1
diesel: Euro 3 with particle filter

2020:
petrol: Euro 2
diesel: Euro 5

2025:
petrol: Euro 3
diesel: Euro 6

The low emission zone is like in London, where foreigners have to register their vehicle before entering the first time. This is because the information is not on the Belgian vehicle database. This can be done online.
Check here to find out if your vehicle is allowed in the LEZ, or in Flemish, French or German.
If no Euro standard is given on your vehicle papers then the date of first registration will be used to identify the emissions standard.

Vehicles affected
All vehicles with four wheels or more.

Costs
These cars can only enter the LEZ after paying:

- diesel vehicles Euro 3 without DPF
- vehicles older than 40 years
- specialized vehicles Euro 2 for maintenance or utility work

Vehicles that are exempted (see Exemptions) and have standard Euro 2 pay the regular tariff.

Payments can be made for one day (valid until 6 A.M. the following morning), one week, one month, three months, six months or a year.
