Introduction
Barcelona has progressively transformed the historic centre ("Ciutat Vella") into a pedestrian zone during certain times of the day. The access is regulated with pylons and by a central control unit.

Barcelona has also established a concept called superblocks/supermanzanas. This concept keeps transit traffic out of the superblocks. These are defined through a set of basic roads which form a polygon or inner area, and contain within them a public space geared toward the citizen.

In these parts of Barcelona the superblock concept has already been established:
- Gracia
- Santa Maria del Mar
- El Born

For these parts the concept will be established in the near future:
- Viladecans
- El Prat (Cataluña)
- A Coruña
- Ferrol (Galicia)
- 22@
